Past two weeks have been very hectic hence less of the update.

Celebrated my 24th last Friday which will be one of the most memorable. Involved a lot of drink and spending it with friends and family - enough said.

This week included Dr Fell's. Although it was the quietest we've ever been, in context with other nights we actually did pretty well. We heard that other nights were dead quiet. Rock Nite the night before only had 15-20 people attend, and it's normally heaving. They ended up closing at 12.30am. Luckily with a new rig hire at a cheap rate we didn't make a loss. People seemed to enjoy themselves and the absinthe cocktails went down well :)

Went over to drop of Wynter's present Sunday night and had a chat with Grandma and Grandpa Aplin. Spent the evening with [info]paul_sticks and watched Wallace & Gromit.

Obviously with it being a good weekend, I overslept so missed my morning seminar. Decided to go in for the afternoon lecture and immense traffic going into Guildford and missed that as well! Sitting in the computer room passing time till I can make it back to Boringstoke for my afternoon job. What a waste of time!

Aug. 22nd, 2005 08:16 am Dr Fells and weekend

Dr Fell's turned out to be a really good night. Best attendance that we've had in ages and also some familiar old faces that turned up. Should see numbers being better now that the summer is nearly over. Also good to see new faces constantly turning up. Not sure about the Ann Summer reps turning up and flashing their bits at the back :/ Also bad news on one of the punters ending up in A & E after being attacked by townies.

Saturday was also my last day at Debs! Didn't think I'd actually leave the place after nearly three years. But it had to be done. Couldn't stand working their any longer on crap pay and working conditions. Was also surprised when one of my customers gave my a large tip and another got me a book voucher. And all I got from Debs was a 'lousy' card! (Not that it bothered me). From now on I have Saturdays off! W0000T.

Sunday had a lie in :) then went into town for a late fry up and wondered round the shops. Went to the supermarket to get a few bits, then we decided to get a some beer. But unfortunately because we were carrying a basket I went outside to get a trolley. Then the stupid security guard wouldn't let me back in because it was 4.01pm. Despite me explaining that I'd only come out for a trolley and Paul was still in there with the shopping that he couldn't carry it and I had cash on me he STILL wouldn't let me in. Rang Paul to meet me at the entrance in which the snotty security card stood by his words so we left minus the shopping.

Sunday evening spent doing the housework, had a dinner of shark steak and stir fry, then to bed with 'Meet the Fockers', which was funny but not as good as the first.

Aug. 15th, 2005 12:42 pm YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2005 WHEN...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of four.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that
they
don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You go home after a long day at work and still answer the phone in a
business manner.

7. You make phone calls from home and accidentally dial "9" to get an
outside line.

8. You've sat at the same desk for four years and worked for three
different companies.

10. You learn about your redundancy on the 11 o'clocknews.

11. Your boss doesn't have the ability to do your job.

12 You pull up in your own driveway and use your mobile phone to see if
anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

13. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the
screen.

14. Leaving the house without your mobile phone, which you didn't have the
first 20 or (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you
turn around to go and get it.

15. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

16. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. :)

17. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

18. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this
message.

19. You are too busy to notice there was no number 9 on this list.

20. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a number 9 on
this list.

AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING AT YOURSELF.

Take the quiz: "What does your birth month reveal about you?"

November
Has lots of extraordinary ideas. Difficult to fathom. Thinkforward. Unique. brilliant. Sharp thinking. Fine, strong clairvoyance. make good doctors. Dynamic. Secretive. Inquisitive. Know how to dig secrets. Always thinking. Less talkative. amiable. Brave. generous. Patient. Stubborn. hardhearted. Determined. Never quit. Hardly become angry unless provoked. Love to be alone. Think differently. Sharp-minded. Motivate self. Dont appreciate praises. Highspirited. Well-built, tough. Deep love, emotions. Romantic. Uncertain in relationships. Homely. Hardworking. High abilities. Trustworthy. Honest. Keepsecrets. Cant control emotions. Unpredictable.

Surprised at how correct this is :/

Not sure about 'strong clairvoyance' - I'm not psychic in the least despite working in the most haunted pubs in Basingstoke.

'Make good doctors' - now I *write* like one! Maybe could be 'Make good lawyers'?

Apr. 9th, 2005 01:58 am Bang Bar

Does anyone have any criticisms about Bang Bar that I can reiterate to Caroline (the manager by default because no one else wants it)? We've arranged a meeting.

I was given the job of bar manager for Thursdays because they were desperate to get someone in to replace someone that was leaving. Apparently, I have 'slagged off' the bar (and Caroline) but from my knowledge I was only responding to what was common knowledge. As far as I'm concerned people reckon that the bar would do much better without the current management.

Any comments would be good :) That bar needs to know some home truths...

Mar. 24th, 2005 04:26 pm A possible episode for '24' minus the terrorists

I handed my dissertation 30 mins ago after spending the last 24 hours rewriting a substantial part of it. The deadline was today at 4pm.

Yesterday I'd spent all day on it. Time had gone so fast that I realised I had to go to work in an hour at 8pm, and I had not eaten all day or seen night appear. So I had something to eat and left for work.

Around midnight I arrived home and continued writing my dissertation. At first I thought I'd only needed to clear up a few things in the conclusion, but for whatever reason my argument was going circular, and I had to breakdown the issues and rewrite in a more logical manner.

By the time I had become satisified with what I'd written it was 6am - so I thought better get some kip before I get up to finish the last bits and pieces. Didn't get much sleep since *someone* was snoring.

Woke up at 10am to finish it. Was not happy with the conclusion. It was one of those where you knew vaguely what you wanted to say but couldn't convey it in words which sounded right. So kept at that.

2pm decided to print it out. Since I mostly print on draft and not usually 40 pages of dissertation the printer took FOREVER. I took one copy of the essay in the vain hope I could photocopy it once I got into London.

MISSED THE TRAIN BY 1 MINUTE

Went back home to pick up the missing pieces of the second copy and telephoned National Railway Enquiries which have changed their number and is a machine that tries to recognise what you're saying. All I wanted to know was whether I could drive to 'Boring'-stoke and get a fast train in. No hope of that since it took ages to get an answer.

Last although risky plan was to take the 2.44pm train into London from Alton which gets in at 3.57 and get a cab across Waterloo Bridge - I had to consider the odds whether it was quicker to run (on average takes me 10mins) or cab. Took the cab with my emergency £10 note.

Got into the uni at 4.06pm. Ran into the Law School AND IT WAS CLOSED!!! *Panic*. Knocked on the door three times - no answer, and wanted to contemplate suicide since I was bound to fail. (NB irony - the subject matter of the dissertation). Was about to try and find my tutor to beg and plead but someone appeared from the Law School. Thankfully they accepted my dissertation with 'You got away with it' - I will forever be grateful.

Tried to contact Paul and Lisa to emotionally unload but they're not picking up, but have resorted to LJ. Will try to stop talking in a robot-like manner once I've recovered :)

Man I need a drink...

Mar. 21st, 2005 12:06 pm Weekend

Well, it was a good weekend considering I still had to work!

Friday night was down the Tart as usual where [info]paul_sticks came with me. Nice to see Siouxsie and Ursula as well. And at the evening we had our usual Friday lock-in of beer and general nattering with the staff. Also my sister Lisa came round ours that evening to stay for the weekend.

Saturday Paul, Lisa, [info]dark_junkie and I drove to Railway Inn in Winchester for the Torpedoes, RBK and Leisur:Hive gig which I immensely enjoyed. Apart from getting lost in the one way system and ending up in Basingstoke on the way back (but heh we had kebabs), I thought the bands did really well. Also it was nice to see the familiar faces of the Southampton and Portsmouth lot.

Early hours of Sunday morning was spent chatting away and drinking red wine - sorry to Crixx for keeping him up till 5am. Damn work called to say they'd changed by shift and could I come in early which I wasn't happy about. Anyway, came back home in the afternoon and Paul and Lisa had decided we should go out to eat and see Constantine. So we went to see the film, and it was ok. Big build up with the storyline, but sort of deflated at the end. Then we had some pub food and went home to another quiet evening of booze and nattering.

Mar. 16th, 2005 09:48 am Last few days...

Sunday, [info]paul_sticks and I decided to treat ourselves after Saturday's fiasco with a nice meal at our local curry house 'The Bengal'. We were originally going to get a take out, but it was only 10% difference in price so we decided to eat in. The food was gorgeous and not badly priced. I usually like to experiment with different types of curry providing they're not hot, hot, so I went for a birani, but Paul stayed safe as usual and got a korma. It was a very nice meal and highly recommended.

Monday, I decided to have a day off (since I worked Sunday afternoon). Besides I hadn't prepared for my seminar, but I guess it's just that end of year feeling when I can't be asked to do a lot and waiting for Easter and revision time to come round. Fortunately, I was starting to feel unwell by the afternoon and stayed in bed. We watched Collateral, which was ok, but not the most exciting film of the year, although I do think Tom Cruise looks better with grey hair (but he is getting on a bit).

Tuesday, again spent half the day in bed (with flu), although managed to drag myself to The Market with an afternoon pint with Paul and [info]all_gothed_up, which was enjoyable and discussing the club stuff. Decided to work in the evening and for some reason managed to have a brain wave and put in a lot of critique in my dissertation that I hadn't realised before. One of the points my tutor mentioned was there wasn't enough of 'me' in my presentation, so I thought 'ha, there you go'. After not doing anything on it for a week I feel a sense of achievement especially since it's due in next week :(

Today, I will be in London attending a seminar and collecting work from my pigeon hole that's probably become a small gathering. Will be at the Tart later - anyone who wants to join it's Quiz Nite and Man on the Pump (raffle where the prize is pour as many pints in a minute!).

Mar. 14th, 2005 12:33 pm Dr Fell's Debut

One of the most challenging things I have done in my life....

About 48 hours notice to DJ at a new Goth club, to learn some posi-punk/punk music, to write up an industrial set and to learn to DJ at hour before the night started!

So far as the comments are concerned people enjoyed themselves (thank God!). Although throughout the night I was mainly concerned that things were running smoothly. The DJing itself wasn't too complicated although it was the fear of making sure the tracks were changed over at a convenient point, that the stuff I was sampling as the next track weren't accidentally played over the speakers etc. There were a few minor cock ups. For me I played the *wrong* song in my industrial set - the track number didn't correlate with the song AND someone was requesting something and the last song had finished - hence silence. These things threw me off and made me think that the night hadn't gone as well, but we learnt what worked and didn't and we will be making some changes for the next night.

I think the hardest thing was deviating away from the set lists. At times things we'd planned didn't work, and I cut out some stuff of me set. The last half hour consisted of re-writing the set from scratch and incorporating some requests. All this and with little time whilst the current tracks were playing to decide what to play next.

At the end of the night I was so tired from living and breathing the club in the last 2 days and it was all over.

Mar. 7th, 2005 01:45 pm The weekend

Saturday night drove home from work to get ready hastily for the all day gig event at 'The Peel' in Kingston. Unfortunately, I wasn't informed that the event would start at 3pm, and I didn't have time to get the day off or rearrange my shift so Lisa and I decided to meet [info]paul_sticks at the venue for his birthday bash.

Managed to catch NFD and Inkubus Sukkubus. The former was more rock/heavy and the vocalist reminded me a little of Rammstein. The Inkies were good as always. Candia and Tony recognised me from the SBA gig and I had a quick chat with Candia who looks great after having a baby. Although I managed to only catch a couple of hours at the gig it was fun. Managed to trip over a step on entering the ladies and landed straight into someone in the loo that was unlocked, and was very embarrassed. Fortunately it was [info]vellouria, but it didn't help that the girl that witnessed all this had told all her friends and grabbed me on passing that 'this is the girl' that it happened to!

Later grabbed some chicken burgers on the way home. Had to go to Basingstoke first to drop off [info]two_weasels, which became a laborious detour consisting of going further south from A31/A3 to the M3 then back up north. By this point everyone was asleep or not saying much in the car and it was hard for me to stay awake whilst trying to self-direct myself. Needless to say I was knackered when I got back.

Sunday evening we celebrated Paul's birthday at the Market Tavern in Alton. We had a nice roast earlier in the day, then kebabs for dinner, finishing with red wine and Resident Evil 2.

Feb. 25th, 2005 11:54 am Head hurts

So missed this morning's seminar. Hadn't done the reading and thought I could manage it after 4 hours sleep to get it done on the underground but when the alarm went off and there was no way I was getting up.

Anyway, drank too much although not as much as Lisa who immediately fell to sleep with her clothes on! Woke up this morning to have a go at me for not waking her up to get changed and brush her teeth! I must admit even when I am plastered I'm pretty virtuous and make sure I wash and change before I go to bed.

Last night they played a lot of R n B classics, so Lisa and I had a great time and got rather nostalgic. Although we stuck out a bit - we weren't the ones dressed in mini skirts and heels and trying desperately to attract male attention by dancing with their female friends.

Feb. 15th, 2005 11:37 pm I'm Back! (Although you probably hadn't realised I'd gone)

Just spent a few days at my parents in Cambridgeshire where I was fed and watered loads :) I love the fact that when I go home I don't have to worry about anything, and everything is provided for me. I'm thoroughly relaxed and refreshed.

Whilst at my parents I managed to get my car MOTed. Thankfully, it passed! Although a car that age I always contemplate that something would fail. I cleaned it out before I left to give the impression that I hadn't abused it (no sarccy comments Nick!), topped the oil up. I was concerned that the steering wasn't quite right, but my dad recified that by putting air in my tyres (doh!) and correcting a light before it went off for the test. Also my nice dad put £20 petrol in :o)

Oh, and managed to start on my dissertation, which I've left for 4 weeks. Really pleased since I know exactly what I'm focussing on - I collected all the relevant material, spent a fortune photo copying but not actually read anything, hence I managed to do that. I would appreciate if some of you would read it once I've drafted it to see what you think. As I mentioned in my last posting it's about assisted suicide (euthanasia) in relation to non-somatic (psychological) suffering in the Netherlands.

Received a letter from the Law Society asking for £80 per year to be a member (student rate)! That's a bit of a bummer because I've just persuaded my parents to pay the £200 deposit for law school. The membership is compulsory prior to starting law school to regulate that I will be a 'competent' solicitor under the Solicitors Act 1974 once qualified but they want paying within 4 weeks and I don't have that money at the moment. I haven't even finished my degree and I need to be regulated...

Anyways, working at Debs and Tart tomorrow - will be spending time with my colleague and play mate Simon at the pub ;op
